RECYLING in Worcester may have to be incinerated according to the GMB union as strike action looms.

Severn Waste Services workers have started balloting for strike action according to the GMB trade union.

The vote has come after union members' request for a £1.50 pay rise, which was allegedly rejected by company management.

Severn Waste Services provides all recycling and waste processing services to Worcestershire and Herefordshire Councils.

Justine Jones, GMB Organiser, said: “Severn Waste Services have time and time again failed to recognise the value of the work our members do.

“Our members are reporting being pushed to the breadline by the company's insistence of ignoring worker demands for higher pay.

“Strike action could risk waste and recycling facilities being forced to shut their doors, with potentially no other choice than to turn to already creaking local incinerators.

“Our door is open, but this is an outcome Severn Waste Services must act urgently to avoid."

Severn Waste Services and Worcestershire County Council have declined to comment at this time.
