A pre-school has received a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted inspectors as work continues on its new permanent home.

Rushwick Pre-School has received a ‘good’ report from inspectors Ofsted with praise in all the key areas including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes and personal development as well as leadership and management.

Staff and children at the pre-school in Upper Wick Lane in Rushwick said they were “overjoyed” with the inspection results as the focus now turned to making the long-needed move to a permanent home next year.

Ofsted inspectors found that children at the pre-school formed “secure relationships” with “kind and caring” staff.

“Children are independent and take responsibility for their belongings,” the report said. “They behave well and know what staff expect of them.

Ofsted also found that children at the pre-school were “eager to play and motivated to learn.”

“They listen attentively to stories read enthusiastically by staff,” inspectors said. “Children confidently join in with action songs and rhymes.

“Children use their imaginations and express their creativity.

"Staff plan a good balance of child-initiated and adult-led activities. They know what they want children to learn and why.

“However, on occasion, particularly during group activities, staff's intentions for children's learning are not always developmentally appropriate for all taking part. This means some children are not as actively engaged in their learning as their peers.”

Nevertheless, Ofsted said parents “spoke highly” of Rushwick Pre-School saying that “staff were lovely and their children were very happy to attend.”

Ofsted also praised the leadership and management of the pre-school saying it was “strong” and its “dedicated” manager Stacey Clark “continued to drive improvements” and “further develop the already good standard of care and education.”

“The manager holds her staff team in high regard,” Ofsted said. “She works alongside staff on a daily basis. The manager meets regularly with staff to talk about their well-being and discuss ongoing professional development opportunities. Staff morale is high.

“They state that they feel valued and supported by the manager and wider leadership team. Staff are very happy in their roles.”

The good inspection results come as work continues to build the new Rushwick Pre-School which is on course to be finished later this year.

The pre-school hopes to move from its temporary home at Rushwick Primary School, where it has been since the start of this year, and be up and running in the new purpose-built building by January next year.

Pre-school manager Stacey Clark said: “Committee and staff members both past and present have worked extremely hard over many years with fundraising for the new build.

“We are all very excited and relieved that after all the hard work the finished project is finally in sight.

“We plan to have an open day on completion of the new pre-school, where we will invite all past families, staff and committee members who have all been a huge support to us over the years and have enabled us to achieve our goal.”

The pre-school was rated ‘good’ in its last inspection in 2017.
