Cllr Bayliss said: “I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to stand for parliament in the city I love and which I’ve served for over two decades.

"Worcester means so much to me and the chance to represent its views and interests in Parliament would be a huge honour.

"I will be spending the next few weeks and months getting out and about meeting residents and listening to them and what they want from the next parliament.”

He was selected at a meeting of party members from a shortlist of three candidates.

Cllr Bayliss served as a city councillor for 18 years until he retired from the council this May, serving as leader for almost five years.

He paid tribute to the current MP for Worcester, Robin Walker, highlighting his dedication to the city.

Lucy Hodgson, local conservative party chair, said: “I’ve known and worked with Marc for many years.

"I know how much he loves Worcester and wants to serve this great city.  I am delighted he has been selected and the Party will support him to carry on the work of our current MP, Robin Walker.”
