ROADWORKS on a busy city road are set to last until the end of September.

Severn Trent Water is carrying out essential maintenance work on the water network along the A44 London Road, the London Road roundabout and Whittington Road.

The work began today (Monday, September 11) and is set to last until the end of September.

As part of the work, multi-way temporary traffic lights and a lane closure heading towards the roundabout will be used.

On London Road, the work will begin in front of the bus stop, before moving towards the roundabout.

A letter sent to residents and businesses that could be affected by the roadworks emphasised that Severn Trent will be trying to minimise disruption.

It said: "We appreciate that it can be a pain to have this work happening near you - but please be assured that we (along with our contract partner Watertight) will do everything we can to minimise any disruption.

"We'll do our very best to keep to the above dates, but they may change due to circumstances beyond our control."

If water supply to residents and businesses on the road is set to be affected, Severn Trent has said that they will be notifying people 48 hours in advance with a card.

During or after work, there is a  chance that water may appear discoloured, which Severn Trent says is nothing to worry about and will return to normal quickly.

Paul Hughes, community communications officer at Severn Trent said: “We are currently working on London Road to improve water pressure for our customers in the local area.

"Due to the location of the works and to keep our team and other road users safe, three-way traffic lights and a lane closure are in place.

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to apologise for any inconvenience and thank people for their patience while we make these network improvements.

"Our team will be working hard to get this job completed and everything ack to normal as quickly as possible.”

The work is unrelated to a burst main in Liverpool Road in August which caused several issues in the surrounding areas.
