A FRONT door set alight under 'suspicious' circumstances was tackled by residents before emergency services arrived.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called out to a house fire on Wyld's Lane, in Worcester, at 10.31pm on Sunday, September 10.

Residents were able to extinguish the flames before emergency service crews arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "One Worcester Fire Station crew attended a property in Wylds Lane where the fire involving the front door had been extinguished by residents prior to the fire service’s arrival.

“All people were accounted for and supporting appliances were stood down before a fire investigation was carried out.

“There were no casualties and the incident was left with the police at 11.51pm due to the suspicious nature of the fire.”

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Police were called to Wylds Lane in Worcester on Sunday, September 10 around 10.40am, following reports of a fire at a property, which caused damage to a front door.

"No one was injured and the fire had been extinguished before emergency services arrived. 

"We believe the fire had been started deliberately and that there is no wider threat to the community. 

"Officers are carrying out enquiries to identify the individuals involved and ask anyone who may have seen or knows anything about this incident to contact detective Sergeant Katie Miller on 01905331099 or by emailing katie.miller@westmercia.police.uk."
