The fire service has helped Worcester Cathedral work out a plan to save its historic documents in the event of a fire.
Firefighters carried out a drill last week to make sure as many artefacts can be saved should the worst happen.
“Our medieval library is home to thousands of important and valuable historical documents and artefacts, so it’s important that we have a plan in place to rescue as many of the library’s treasures as possible in the event of a fire,” a spokesperson for the cathedral said.
Working with Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, the cathedral has set up a rope system to remove bags of manuscripts and other items in the quickest way possible.

“We estimate we would need around 300 bags to remove the most important items and documents,” the spokesperson added.
“So, we’re asking for your help – if you have any bags for life that you don’t need, we’d really appreciate it if you would kindly donate them to our stores.
“You can drop them into the main cathedral welcome desk during normal opening hours.
“Thank you so much to H&W Fire & Rescue for helping us with this important exercise, which we obviously hope to never have to put into action.”
