SEVERN Trent Water has reassured people that a white substance spotted floating on the river Severn is naturally occurring foam.
Residents spotted the substance including Mike Parkin who pictured it while in Diglis.
He said there was a lot of it coming from the north of Pitchcroft adding it could be seen south of Diglis.
It has also been spotted in the river Severn at Holt Fleet.
We contacted Severn Trent Water who liaised with the Environment Agency to find out what the substance is.
Severn Trent Water explained foam can occur downstream of locations such as weirs, which can agitate the water.
Matthew Jeynes, Waste Team Manager at Severn Trent Water, said: “Having investigated reports of foam on the River Severn, we can confirm that this is naturally occurring and is not connected to any Severn Trent assets.”
Checks were also made of the network in the area with Severn Trent Water satisfied everything was operating as it should.
