FISH and chip lovers have been rejoicing at the opening of a new takeaway which its owner says has already proved a success.

Newtown Takeaway in Ronkswood Hill, Worcester, opened earlier this week in Ronkswood Hill at the location of the old Newtown Fryer.

The chip shop is under new management - the same owners as the popular Pickersleigh's chip shop in Malvern.

Zac Ahmed, one of the managers at the new chippie, said it was an exciting venture for their team.

"We have run the Malvern one, that has been a successful business for the past four years," he said.

"We have invested the money into this.

"We want to get our food to the people of Worcester as well."

The shop opened on Monday, (October 2), and Mr Ahmed said they had had a great response.

"It's good, been busy," he said.

"We are just takeaway at the moment - we are going to start doing delivery soon.

"We want to make sure the service and everything is right first, and then we can start doing deliveries."

The chip shop is promising "premier" fish and chips but the manager said they were offering more than that with a choice of pizza, southern fried chicken, pies and kebabs available.

Mr Ahmed added the chippy was employing six staff at the family-run business which will open daily between midday and 10pm.

As we reported earlier this year Newtown Fryer - which had previously been a runner-up in Worcester News' Best Chip Shop competition in 2021 - closed blaming "accidental damage to the shop".

A neighbour of the business told us at the time: "There was an incident a while back where someone reversed their car into the front of the shop."
