A WOMAN who racially abused door staff and smashed a window at a German-themed bar in the city centre has been fined by magistrates.

Jade Fry, of Vesta Tilley Court, Worcester, got into an argument with staff which quickly escalated, Worcester Magistrates Court heard.

Lauren Millichip, prosecuting, said at 12.45pm on May 13 this year the 22-year-old was in Bierkeller in New Street.

The court heard Fry intervened after her friend was asked to leave before becoming "aggressive" and punching a door, smashing the glass in its window.

Miss Milichip described a struggle with bar staff and at times the defendant had to be taken to the floor.

The prosecutor said Fry, who had no previous convictions, had called staff names including "imbeciles" before making the racist comment to one of the staff members.

Fry, who admitted the charges of racially aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress -words/writing and criminal damage, was defended by Barry Newton.

The solicitor said Fry had "remonstrated" over her friend being told to leave before recklessly punching the glass causing it to smash.

He said Fry was followed to the exit of the venue but was told she couldn't leave until she spoke to a manager - a decision he called "bizarre" and said led to further escalation of the situation.

Mr Newton added Fry had accepted her behaviour was unacceptable during the incident which lasted around three minutes.

Richard Poppleton, chairperson of the bench, said Fry would be fined £70 for the public order offence, explaining she would pay a higher amount due to there being a racial element to the offence.

Fry was ordered to pay £100 compensation towards the cost of repairing the window she smashed.

The defendant was also told to pay costs of £185 and £28 victim surcharge.

The chairman told Fry to pay the total, £383, in full within 28 days.

The case was heard at the court on Thursday, (October 5).
