A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a house fire in a quiet city road. 

Police, fire engines and ambulance were called to the fire in Wych Elm Close at around 1pm this afternoon (October 9). 

In a statement a West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We received a call around 1pm this afternoon (9 October) with a report of a fire at a property on Wych Elm Close in Worcester.

"Officers attended the property and after enquiries into how the fire started, one man was arrested on suspicion of arson."

We earlier reported a man was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

At 2pm there were two fire engines, an ambulance, an ambulance car, a police van and two police cars in attendance.

The ambulance and the ambulance car left at 2.05pm, before the police left the scene at 2.10pm.

At around 2.30pm there was one fire engine left, with a pump running into the property.
