Popular Worcester education company Discover History celebrated their 20th birthday.

Paul and Helen founded the Company in 2003 - to bring history to life for people of all ages and abilities. At the time they delivered workshops covering the Medieval, Tudor and Stuart periods in history for local schools and home-education groups.

"In 20 years we have expanded and now offer hands on history workshops and half or full day history festivals, covering all periods in history from the Stone Age to the 1950s," said Paul.

"School work has now become just one aspect of what we do."

Discover History has expanded into delivering talks for clubs and societies, living history for museums and heritage organisations, plus walking tours of Worcester.

Media work, training and consultancy for the heritage industry have also been added to their repertoire.

"We never thought Discover History would become the success it has," Helen added.

"We now work across Britain and won many awards for what we offer. We are privileged to have won the Worcestershire Education Awards twice since the awards began."

Despite school funding being cut over the years, people not visiting museums and heritage sites as much, plus the covid-19 pandemic, Discover History have continued to keep going and in many ways have evolved to keep up with the challenges to self-employment.

Paul continued: "Covid had a big impact on the world, including education and the heritage industry. Helen made sure our business continued by coming up with many ideas.

"This included setting up a YouTube Channel and assisting many schools with remote learning. Our Youtube channel also got us noticed by the BBC."

Discover History specialises in local history and through their social media posts, regular talks at St Johns Church and writing for the Worcester News every month, they have helped both locals and tourists to learn and embrace the long history of the city.

As the team celebrates 20 years, they have already began planning their next moves into the future.
