A 40-YEAR-old, man has been jailed after being part of a knife-wielding gang who threatened to stab a vulnerable person.

Dale Thorn, of Nailers Row, Castle Street, Evesham, was told by a judge only immediate jail was the correct sentence in his case.

Andrew Baker, prosecuting, said at 11.20pm on April 22, 2021, Thorn with accomplices knocked on the door of the victim's home in Evesham.

The prosecutor said the gang of three pushed passed the victim when he answered the door, forcing their way in.

The court heard the victim, who has Asperger's syndrome and was living independently for the first time, was threatened with being stabbed and made to sit on a chair.

And as they were leaving one of the gang said to the victim: "You are not a snitch are you?

"I know where you live."

Fingerprints left at the scene led to Thorn being identified and arrested.

Thorn admitted burglary and possession of a Class B drug cannabis. That second offence took place on June 11, 2021 - Thorn being found with 11 bags of cannabis on him.

The court heard Thorn had a lengthy criminal record including previous convictions for possession to supply amphetamines, production and possession of cannabis and breaching a number of court orders.

Kate Roxburgh, defending, said the dad-of-two was part of the gang and was not aware an accomplice was carrying a knife until it was produced.

The barrister said it had been a case of "mistaken identity" as the gang had got the wrong property.

She added Thorn had severe depression and anxiety, battling a drug addiction.

Judge Nicholas Cartwright said although he accepted Thorn had not carried the knife the defendant could have walked away when it was produced.

He said Thorn's previous convictions, the offence being committed at night as well as the victim being vulnerable all aggravated the offence.

Thorn had his head in his hands as he was told he would be jailed for a total of three years and one month.

The case was heard at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, (October 27).
