ROADWORKS on the main route between Malvern and Ledbury have been going on for too long, according to a county councillor.

Temporary two-way traffic lights on the A449 Wells Road near the British Camp Car Park have been causing delays for months.

The Worcestershire County Council website says the restrictions have been in place since May 12 and are set to be removed on Thursday, November 30.

Malcolm Victory, county councillor for the Chase Ward, is seeking answers from the authority's highways department.

Cllr Victory said: "It has been going on for too long.

"A friend of mine, who lives in Malvern Wells, reported it to me recently. He said he had been delayed many times.

"He suggested they had moved it up the road a bit away from the bend which was an improvement.

"There had been no work visible so why is it there?"

People posting on the Voice of Ledbury Facebook page said they had not seen much work being carried out either.

Some believed the roadworks were in place due to a wall that needed fixing.

One poster said: "Have once seen them working there. I’ve asked myself many a time when are they going to finish?"

Another said: "This is my daily route to work. I have only seen one works van

(parked up whilst driver and workmate could enjoy a brew). Shameful."

And one poster suggested: "They are only there so pedestrians can walk on the

road, presumably until the wall has been fixed! Well that’s what it looks like. Distinct lack of work happening."

Worcestershire County Council's website says works in this location are being carried out by its maintenance department relating to 'Highway Repair and Maintenance Works' with 'delays likely'.

The county council had not responded as the Gazette went to press.
