NUMEROUS calls were made to 999 after a small diesel car was on fire closing a major road into the city.

Firefighters discovered the car well alight on the A449 in Ombersley yesterday (Sunday).

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A crew from Droitwich Fire Station was called at 1.17pm on November 12 to a small vehicle on fire on the A449 Southbound in Ombersley, Droitwich.

"A small diesel car, which was well alight, was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hose reel jet.

"The car was then dampened down in a layby. Police also attended.
