A Worcester care home has been placed in special measures after issues including residents' care plans not always being followed.

But bosses said they have a plan in place to turn things around.

Inspire Neurocare Worcester has been rated as ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator responsible for care homes.

A report published on Saturday (November 11) said the care home has six months in which to make “significant improvements”.

Inspectors had previously visited in June and rated the Oldbury Road care home as requiring improvement.

But on a follow-up visit in September, they found improvements had not been made.

The latest CQC report said care plans for residents were not always followed and that residents were not always given the chance to get involved in the local community.

“The environment was homely, spacious in design and met people's needs,” the CQC report said.

“People were supported by caring staff, however, staff had not always received the training they required for their role to ensure people's healthcare needs were met.”

Inspectors had a number of concerns relating to the management of medicines and the treatment of wounds at the care home.

“Some medicines were not administered as prescribed which resulted in people receiving duplicate doses or missing their medicines,” the report said.

A spokesman for Inspire Neurocare Worcester said: “The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our highest priority, and we are committed to providing the very highest quality complex care at Inspire Neurocare Worcester.

“We are of course disappointed with the findings of the most recent Care Quality Commission report into the service, but we are utterly committed to a culture of constant improvement.

“The senior leadership team has formulated and implemented a robust action plan to address the relevant issues and we are confident that the service is already feeling the benefit of these changes.

“As a team we remain committed to our residents, and their families, and we thank them for their patience during this time.”
