CHRISTMAS is just around the corner and as budgets may be stretched it is worth knowing a few free events going on in Worcester.
As the festive season approaches, Worcester will have lots of fun, free things to do that will be sure to get you in the Christmas spirit.
There is something for everyone to enjoy which will not cost a penny.
Christmas Light Switch On
The annual event takes place on Saturday, November 25 and kicks off the city’s Christmas celebrations.
At 4pm a starlight lantern parade will make its way from The Hive to Cathedral Square, where the light switch-on will take place.
The parade will be led by volunteers and puppeteers, taking invitees on a route that will light the streets and show off the volunteers’ lantern creations to the public lining the route in Broad Street and High Street.
In Cathedral Square, BBC Hereford and Worcester presenters will host live music performances running 4pm to 7pm.
Christmas Fayre in the Cloister
Between Thursday, November 30 and Sunday, December 3, Christmas Fayre in the Cloister is returning at Worcester Cathedral.
The medieval cloister will be hosting a variety of vendors selling Christmas goods from 10am to 5pm, apart from on Sunday, where the times will be 12.30 to 3.30pm.
Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre
Almost 200 stalls will fill the streets as Worcester’s traditional Victorian Christmas Fayre returns from Thursday, November 30 until Sunday, December 3.
Visitors can enjoy seasonal stalls offering locally-sourced food, drink, crafts and unique gifts that will run along High Street, Cathedral Square, Pump Street, New Street, Friar Street, Cornmarket and The Shambles.
Christmas Gift Market
The Christmas Gift Market will be held in Worcester city centre, between Friday, December 8 and Sunday, December 10.
The High Street in Worcester is often home to a host of markets and food events throughout the calendar year.
Christmas Tree Festival 2023
Between Thursday, December 7 and Sunday, January 14, the popular Christmas Tree Festival will be returning to the cloister at Worcester Cathedral.
The event has a host of unique Christmas trees, designed and decorated by local schools, charities and organisations.
Booking is not required this year, so just turn up and enjoy the event, buy any large groups (like school trips) are still being asked to contact the Cathedral.
The only two days when the festival will not be open to the public are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Visiting hours are 10am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday (with last entry at 4.30pm) and 1pm to 3pm on Sundays (last entry 2.30pm).
