FATHER Christmas's sleigh will be making an appearance at a Worcester village after the community pulled together to bring some festive magic.

The fundraising sleigh will be out and about across Whittington next month to ensure young and old do not miss out on capturing a glimpse of Santa.

The sleigh has been organised by Whittington Community Events Group (WCEG) which was formed this year to bring the fast-growing community - with its new, younger, demographic - together.

Hundreds flocked to its first-ever summer event which proved a success earlier this year.

Adam Hooper, chairperson of WCEG, said: "Earlier in the year we were exploring fun and interesting things to do to bring the community together and raise money for charity.

"We struck on the idea of a Santa sleigh.

"We have built the sleigh from scratch, it’s built from wood on top of a trailer that we will tow with a car.

"The sleigh will be decked with lights and a sound system so you can’t miss it.

"The sleigh has mainly been built by Katie Lambeth-Mansell with support from other team members.

"We are hugely grateful to Wickes for their donation of the building materials and Tesco in St Peter’s for their donations of lights and sweets.

"We are collecting money for St Richard’s Hospice and Worcester Wheels."

WCEG teamed up with Norton Juxta Kempsey Parish Council to organise the tour which will visit locations in Whittington and Norton Juxta Kempsey during December.

Santa tour includes:

  • Saturday, November 25: 10.30am to 3.00pm - Whittington Community Hall

Santa’s elves will be collecting donations at each event but organisers are also welcoming donations at whittington-events.co.uk.

The website also includes the full route of roads Santa will be visiting and a tracker to follow his progress when out and about.

Mr Hooper added: "We can’t wait to hit the streets with Santa and his sleigh to spread some festive cheer and more importantly to raise money for these important local charities.

"We would love to see as many people out and about waving at Santa and dancing to music, what better way to get ready for Christmas."
