A “dystopian” sound heard throughout the city centre has been explained.

TikTokker Luco (@thelocoluco) filmed eerie noises coming from speakers all around the city and posted it to the social media site yesterday (Wednesday, November 29).

Echoing announcements can be heard as well as high-pitched feedback.

Luco captioned his video “Worcester giving dystopian future vibes” and “creepy”, and can be heard joking in the video that “this is the commencement of the annual purge”.

But there’s a perfectly innocent - and not at all dystopian - explanation for all of this.

“As always, we need to test the tannoy system each day of the Victorian Fayre,” said a spokesperson for Worcester City Council.

“We do try to keep this to a minimum to cause as little disruption as possible.”

The fayre, which attracts thousands of visitors to the city every year, gets underway today and runs until Sunday (December 3).
