A NEW flood warning has been issued in Worcester as the city is experiencing heavy rainfall.

Barbourne Brook has been issued with a flood alert this morning (Monday) by the Environment Agency which warns that flooding is possible.

River levels have risen overnight at the Perdiswell river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall as the city is also affected by a yellow weather warning for heavy rain.

The weather warning has been placed on the city for the whole of Monday.

There are already several flood alerts on rivers and waterways in Worcestershire including the rivers Avon and Salwarpe and the Bow and Piddle Brook.

The Environment Agency warns that flooding of roads and farmland is possible from 9am today (Monday).

Environment Agency staff are currently working to clear the area of weed screens.

It said: "We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the Barbourne Brook from the M5 to Barbourne including Perdiswell and Blackpole Industrial Estate.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until Wednesday (November 6).

"We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

The Environment Agency said it will provide an update at 6pm or as the situation changes.
