Hundreds of visitors flocked to Sudeley Castle for the opening night of its new light trail.

The Spectacle of Light, one of the Cotswolds most renowned festive illuminations, dazzled attendees who went on the Wizard of Oz themed journey on Friday, November 24.

Surrounded by light displays, visitors embarked down the yellow brick road and encountered characters from the classic tale such as Dorothy, Toto, the Lion, Scarecrow, Tinman, and after a bit of searching, even met the Wizard.

The lights illuminated the Grade I listed castle's historic grounds, trees, ruins and gardens.

Kirsty Stevens, from Entertaining the Kids on a Budget Gloucestershire, who attended the launch night, said: "Spectacle of Light is the most magical winter light trail and each year it delights our whole family, with stunning light installations, an immersive theme and the characters really add that extra magic."

Guests indulged in a mulled wine or warm spiced apple drink from The Pavillion before they began their jounrye on the trail, and browsed the street food options available on the Castle Terrace, including freshly baked pizzas from Marvellous Medicine, hot dogs from The Woozy Pig and hot mulled cider from Hayles Fruit Farm.

As one of the Cotswolds’ most popular family attractions, the trail has hosted thousands of visitors each year for nearly a decade.

Despite dates around Christmas being already sold out, tickets remain available on selected nights until Saturday, December 30.
