Attendees were treated to festive goodies such as bratwurst and hot chocolate as well as a prize-giving ceremony.

The main award of the night was given posthumously to Simon Rikunenko, who courageously raised £12,000 for Balls to Cancer after being diagnosed with terminal sarcoma.

Mr Rikunenko's wife Amy said: "Simon could have focused solely on his five children after the devastating diagnosis of terminal cancer.

"Instead, he used the little time he had left to raise money to help others suffering with this dreadful disease.

"The children and I were honoured to collect it on his behalf.

"He is our hero angel, and we will love him for eternity."

The heroes and their families also embarked on a magical journey through the gardens.

This festive trail starts in London's Christmassy nursery, then winds through Mermaid’s Lagoon, Pirate’s Cove, and past Tiger Lily and the lost children’s camps in the woods before ending at Santa’s snow-covered cabin.

Among other attendees, seven-year-old Sophia Marshall, who lives with many life-limiting conditions, was also honoured at the event.

Julie Harbin, who transforms her garden into a year-round showcase to lift community spirits whilst caring for her husband, won the most festive-family accolade.

Webbs Garden Centres owner Mr Webb said: "The past year has been yet another challenging one for so many, and yet there are always individuals that go above and beyond to help others.

"We wanted to celebrate these wonderful people and give them the recognition they deserve."

Amongst several hard-working nurses from the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit and fundraisers, 10-year-old Dexter Roberts was recognised for his 12,000-step challenge which raised money for Midlands Air Ambulance, along with Chloe Witts for her stellar work in promoting understanding of neurodiversity.
