A Worcester man has told of the terrifying moment a burglar crept into his bedroom while he slept.

Dan Green was in bed when three masked men broke into his house in the Kilbury Drive area of Worcester at about 7.35pm on Friday evening (December 8).

“I was home alone that night and decided to go to bed early as I wanted to be up early,” said Mr Green.

“I was asleep for about half an hour and heard a thud sound but assumed it was a neighbour slamming a back door.

“I drifted off to sleep and awoke hearing a creaking floorboard outside my closed bedroom door, I thought I dreamt it and thought nothing of it. As I tried to get back to sleep I heard my bedroom door handle very slowly being pulled down and my door began to open.

“It was a dreadful feeling knowing I’m home alone and no-one is supposed to be here, but someone is coming into my bedroom.

“He stood in my doorway just looking at me, as I wasn’t moving he wasn’t sure if a person was in the bed. I said to myself ‘burglar!’

“He shined a flashlight at me and my body filled with adrenaline and I jumped out of bed and charged towards him screaming ‘get out of my house!’

“He looked terrified to see someone was in the property and bolted out my bedroom and launched himself down the stairs.”

Mr Green chased the burglar downstairs and stopped when he noticed his patio window had been smashed.

“I wanted to chase them into the street but I wasn’t sure if they had all left my property yet so I stood guarding the broken patio in case they tried to get back in or get out and I dialled 999,” he said.

Mr Green said the police arrived quickly, adding that witnesses saw three masked men fleeing the house and taking off down the street on foot.

He doesn't think they managed to take anything as they seemed to have been targeting the bedroom but were scared off.

But Mr Green is now living with the after-effects of the burglary.

“I’m ok but now I am constantly on the alert and struggling to do normal things like wearing headphones as I want to listen out for threats, and constantly checking my surroundings.”

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to Kilbury Drive shortly after 7.40pm on Friday December 8 following a report of a burglary. An investigation is ongoing."
