RESIDENTS  are 'shocked' and 'worried' after multiple homes in their suburb were broken into.

People have been taking extra security measures after police alerted them to a spate of burglaries across Ronkswood and Battenhall.

When Worcester News spoke to homeowners, many told our reporter they were being extra vigilant and ensuring their doors were locked and cameras were positioned correctly.

Over Sunday evening (December 9), police said there were three burglaries across the two estates, one of which happened in Hillery Road.

One resident, who has lived on Hillery Road for the past five years, said they have only ever seen catalytic converter thefts and car break-ins but nothing as 'big' as a house burglary on the estate.

"Some neighbours have said that they have been here nearly 20 years and they haven't seen anything like this," they said.

"There has been an increase and it seems like it's getting worse.

"The burglary was a shock."

Other residents expressed their worry about the house break-ins.

Another resident said they had noticed more police around the estate and thought it was good that they were present.

West Mercia Police is urging residents to take extra steps to ensure their house is safe in the lead-up to Christmas.

PC Kelvin James said: "Burglaries often increase during the winter months.

"There are some simple, inexpensive and effective things you can do to help secure your home and property."

How can I keep my home safe during winter?

There are some easy and cheap steps you can take to keep your home safe during the winter months, including leaving lights on in your home and getting good lighting outside.

Other ways of securing your property include using CCTV or Ring Doorbells, setting up a neighbourhood watch in your area or even a Whatsapp group amongst neighbours in order to keep an eye on each other's property.
