A cyclist who suffered a stroke is trying to find the good Samaritan who saved his life.

Carl Burnell, a postman who lives in Kempsey, wants to thank the man but hasn’t been able to track him down.

"This is my last ditch attempt to find the person who saved my life,” said Mr Burnell, who is 57.

"Back in June I was out on my racing bike and had a massive stroke in the middle of nowhere and a man on a bike found me.

“I was between Croome and Pirton on a quiet road when I felt a bit strange. I stopped my bike and my arm felt weak, then my leg, and I had to lie down.

“I could feel my face had dropped but I couldn’t unlock my phone. I thought ‘This isn’t good’.”

After a few minutes, a man came past on a racing bike and stopped to ask Mr Burnell if he was ok.

“I said ‘No I’m not, I’m having a stroke’. The guy was great and so calm. He did What Three Words to triangulate our position. He called the ambulance, which is basically why I am still here.”

The ambulance arrived 10 minutes later and because Mr Burnell received medical attention so quickly, he has been able to make a remarkable recovery.

He spent 10 weeks at the stroke rehabilitation centre in Evesham and after no feeling on his left side, has learnt to walk again.

“It was unexpected because I’m pretty fit, eat healthily and have cycled for 30 years,” said Mr Burnell.

“When I left the centre I could walk 10 metres and now I’m pretty active - but if this man hadn’t found me when he did, who knows? It would not have been good.

"I've been desperately trying to find him - if I saw him again I’d cry, thanks to him I’m still here and I’m still Carl.

“I've called the police and ambulance service to see if they could put me in touch but they won't.

“I've asked at bike shops in the area if they've heard and searched Facebook for hours sending messages to people from the area with the same name."

Mr Burnell thinks the man’s name is either Jim or Tim Taylor and is in his 50s. The incident happened on Sunday, June 25 near Pirton.
