A WELL-KNOWN takeaway has received a one-star hygiene rating.

Munchies, a chicken and pizza takeaway in Lowesmoor, was given the score after a recent assessment on November 23, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

In the report, the restaurant was rated generally satisfactory in hygienic food handling and in the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building.

However, major improvement was necessary to manage food safety, such as systems or checks being in place to ensure food sold or served was safe to eat.

Worcester News has contacted Munchies on multiple occasions and is awaiting a response.

The takeaway has now been given a list of improvements it will need to make before its next inspection, which could be as soon as six months.

Hygiene inspections are carried out by the local authority.

Venues are given a score out of five, which they have to display both on the premises and online.

Earlier this year, eyebrows were raised after a sign for Munchies appeared on  Silver Street.

The sign read: "Site acquired by your local Munchies".

The site received planning permission in 2018 for a five-storey city centre apartment block.

In the original approved application permission was given to use the ground floor as a shop, restaurant, bar, pub or for professional and financial offices and for the remaining four floors to house 40 rooms as well as communal kitchens, bathrooms and toilets.
