THIS year the Worcester News is looking to highlight the fantastic contribution made by apprentices to our local economy.

In 2023 more than 4,000 new apprentices started their apprenticeships in Worcestershire, 2,000 of whom were aged 24 or younger.

In the lead up to the 17th annual National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place between Monday, February 5 and Sunday, February 11, 2024 - we are putting a spotlight on apprenticeships.

Whether its those currently working towards an apprenticeship, somebody who has already completed an apprenticeship, the companies that offer so many placements, or the apprenticeship providers they work with to build their skills for life.

We believe there are so many incredible stories that will shine a light on why apprenticeships are vitally important and the incredible work the providers and employers do to change lives.

The Worcester News is launching an appeal through this newspaper, our website www.worcesternews.co.uk and our social channels to find 50 existing or previous apprentices that we can feature in our newspaper leading up to National Apprenticeship Week.

Editor Stephanie Preece said: “Apprenticeships are such a vital part of our local economy. Thanks to the skills they pass on we are ensuring the future of our county’s economy.

“Nowadays apprentices can be found in all manner of sectors and are a really valued part of our workforce.

“So whether you are a proud parent, someone who has doing an apprentice or an employer that has helped shape someone’s career please get in touch and help us shine a light on our county’s apprentices.

“We can’t wait to tell their stories and give them the credit they deserve. Just click on the link and fill in the form - it will only take a few minutes, I promise!”

During the week itself we will be running multiple pages of content in the Worcester News featuring our 50 apprentices and the companies that employ them.

If you are a leading provider, large employer or a small business enterprise that offers apprenticeships in the area, we’d like to shine a light on you too.

To tell us about a local apprentice who deserves to be recognised just click here  or on the button below.

All nominations are free. Any companies looking to get more involved can contact Carl Badham on 07766774259.
