SIGNIFICANT delays are expected on the A449 after part of the road has closed due to flooding.

The road used to connect Worcester and Malvern is now running a contraflow at Powick Roundabout and has 2-way traffic on Cromwell's side.

Slow-moving traffic with lengthy delays has been reported by the AA due to the road being blocked.

One driver said: "It is heavily backed up towards Callow End and Malvern.

"The water is really high."

According to the AA, the partial closure has led traffic to back up onto Upton Road, Old Malvern Road, Temeside Way and Townsend Way.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire Highways said: "A449 is now running a contraflow at Powick Roundabout and has 2-way traffic on Cromwell's side -  expect traffic delays.

"Delays through Powick towards Worcester back to Collets Green now on A449 due to approach to Powick Roundabout being reduced to 1 lane."

Drivers travelling between Worcester and Malvern have also been advised that the A4104 Bransford has also now closed.

Hanley Road to Upton is also closed.

What diversions are in place to avoid the A4449 traffic?

Worcestershire Highways has urged people to consider going via Welland and Tunnel Hill to Upton and then via Kempsey or even try going to the M50 and M5.
