A busy Worcester pharmacy has been sold by the family that has run it for decades.

DL Ogle Pharmacy in St John’s has been owned and run by the Ogle family for more than 50 years.

Estate agency Christie & Co said the business was put up for sale last year “to enable family members to either retire or pursue different business interests.”

Following a confidential sales process with Christie & Co director Carl Steer, it has now been purchased by brothers Ali and Mohammed Talib, Tapiwa Masamha and Chikondi Mlia.

The group already owns Gohil’s Pharmacy and Whistlers Pharmacy in Lincolnshire.

Mr Steer, director at Christie & Co, said: “The sale was confidentially marketed but, within just a few days, interest was achieved from multiple parties, and we were able to present our client with an acceptable offer - this was a truly remarkable achievement but one that the long-standing business deserved.

“The buyers own two sizeable pharmacies in the East Midlands and now add this well-performing profitable pharmacy to their portfolio. It was a pleasure to deal with everyone on the deal.”

Christie & Co described DL Ogle as a standard hours community pharmacy that dispenses an average of 12,000 items per month, adding that it was sold freehold for an undisclosed price.

Ogle’s was opened in 1969 by Dennis Ogle at 20 St John’s and 10 years later, expanded into the former hairdressing salon at number 18.

As well as increasing the size of the shop and computerising patients’ records, Mr Ogle also consulted old photographs and plans, and had the front of the shop developed to look like a Victorian pharmacy so it was more in keeping with other shops in St John’s.

Dennis Ogle reduced his working hours in 2009 and the shop was taken over by his son David.
