A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after crashing into a takeaway.

The 50-year-old had experienced a medical incident from behind the wheel, which led to the car crashing into Droitwich Tandoori in Union Lane.

The vehicle crashed into the takeaway, causing significant structural damage. It also hit into a parked car. 

One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midland Air Ambulance critical care car attended the scene, as well as three fire engines and police.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said, "We were called at 5.14pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a building on Ombersley Way in Droitwich Spa.

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midland Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

"Upon arrival, we found a man who was the driver of the car who is believed to have suffered a medical incident at the wheel.

"He was assessed by ambulance staff and was in a potentially serious condition.

The man had been trapped in the vehicle and three fire crews were on the scene to rescue him. 

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Three HWFR crews – two from Droitwich and one from Bromsgrove Fire Stations – were called at 5.11pm on January 9 to a road traffic collision into a building in Union Lane, Droitwich.

"A vehicle had been in collision with a parked car and also a building.

"A male casualty in his 50s, who was medically trapped, was released from the vehicle.

"He was then handed over to the care of the ambulance service, who attended along with police.

"Significant structural damage was caused to the single-storey building and the owner was advised to contact structural engineers for further advice.

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 5.59pm."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police added: "We received a call around 5pm yesterday evening (January 9) with a report of a vehicle colliding with a property on Union Lane in Droitwich.

"Officers attended the incident to support our colleagues from the fire and ambulance service.

"The vehicle was recovered."
