Worcestershire's frozen treat experts are set to introduce a frosty friend to the streets of Worcester this summer.

Vandemoortele Worcester, known for its array of frozen bakery goods, is set to sponsor one of 80 penguin sculptures in the upcoming Waddle of Worcester.

The business was originally established in 1991, supplying the UK market with unbaked frozen pastry products.

Vandemoortele remains the sole UK manufacturer to fulfil large-scale, pre-proofed frozen Viennoiserie for the wholesale market.

The company's involvement in the Waddle of Worcester comes as part of an eight-week art trail organized by St Richard’s Hospice and set to start on July 22.

The penguin sculpture will be brought by an artist, before being auctioned off at the end of the project for charity.

The site manager at Vandemoortele Worcester, Mark Parton said: "We’re passionate about what we do here and believe everyone’s everyday food should be about everyday enjoyment.

"When we heard about 80 penguins making every day fun in Worcester next summer we knew we had to get on board!"

Mr Parton added that the firm was also delighted to be supporting St Richard’s Hospice, which he described as "a very special place serving the local community."

Joining the art trail will be forty large and forty small fibreglass penguin sculptures.

Sara Matthews, the business development manager for the hospice, said: "We’ve loved meeting the team at Vandemoortele, who are as passionate about having fun as they are about food.

"Sponsoring a penguin is a brilliant way to bring people together in an organisation and we know the Vandemoortele team will have hours of enjoyment out on the trail next summer."

The Waddle of Worcester is supported by several partners, including Crowngate, DRPG, Worcester City Council, Worcestershire Ambassadors, Worcester News and BBC Hereford & Worcester.
