There has been an outpouring of sadness with people describing Mr Pope as a “lovely man” and praising the work he did in turning the Paul Pry into “one of the best pubs in the city”.

Other Worcester pubs and businesses were also quick to pay tribute.

The Alma Tavern said: “Such sad news, our thoughts are with Alex’s family and friends.”

And Jackie Barry, landlord at the Northwick Arms, said: “We at The Northwick Arms are terribly sorry to see this. Sending our heartfelt condolences to the family and all the staff.”

Warren’s Removals & Storage said: “Deeply saddened by the passing of Alex Pope.

“Back in 2015 Alex and Warren came up with a joint ale to give to our customers. We called them Warren’s Haulage and Remove-Ales, which was Alex’s genius idea.

“Warren worked with Alex before this as a chef, however, it was very clear Alex was light years ahead of Warren in the kitchen, hence why Alex went on to achieve such local success.

“Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. We are here if any of you need anything. Alex you will be missed by so many.”
