WORCESTER's newest supermarket has been receiving positive reviews since its grand opening earlier this month.

Friends Asian Supermarket opened its doors on January 14, founded by brothers Dennis and David Matthews.

The pair owned a successful convenience store on Stanley Road for 18 years and have now taken the business to the next level.

The large-scale supermarket is based on St Nicholas Street in Worcester's city centre and is prided on bringing a "taste of Asia" to Worcester.

So we popped down to find out what all of the fuss what about.

As we enter the store, what strikes us is the range of products that are on offer to customers.

Products come from several Asian countries including India, China, Korea, Africa, the Caribbean and the Middle East, as well as a range of fresh foods, ranging from fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.

Admittedly, the sight of biscuits on the shelves near the entrance grabs our immediate attention and leaves you spoilt for choice.

Something else that caught our eye was the size of the bags of rice, which, at their biggest, weigh as much as 20kg.

But if you think that's big then the bags of flour are even heavier. You can buy a pack of Champion Atta flour, which weighs 25kg, for £14.99.

You won't be short of refreshments with a large selection of drinks on offer, ranging from orange squash, Pepsi, coconut water and Red Bull energy drinks.

At the far end of the store, we come across the meat and fish counter that, judging by the queue that had formed, is a popular section for customers.

There are an array of meats you can take away including, lamb, beef, sheep and oxtail, with some ordered from India that arrive on next day delivery.

A range of spices, sauces and condiments can be found near the rear of the store, along with a vibrant selection of fruit and vegetables.

There is also healthy and beauty and cleaning products in this area, which are all reasonably priced.

If you like your frozen food, you will find a large selection of products from frozen meats, pastries, spring rolls, flatbread and Corchorus leaves.

Overall, the store comes across as warm and friendly, with staff on hand to help you find the items you are looking for.

The store opens from 8:30am to 9:30pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 7:30pm on a Sunday.
