Plans for ten new glamping pods in Wychbold have been revealed.

Liberty Leisure Centre in Saxon Way has submitted new plans to Wychavon District Council to install ten timber glamping pods.

The pods will be in the woodland area next to the gym's existing car park and will feature a timber decking on the ground to "ensure that they do not impact upon the existing trees".

A new "informal" footpath will be put in place from the car park to the pods and holiday goers will be able to park in the leisure centre's existing car park.

Each hut would provide basic accommodation for up to two people with a chemical toilet and power supplied by surface-mounted equipment.

Liberty Leisure Centre said the huts will not be occupied all year round and will be visually unobtrusive and very well screened from any public views.

On the planning application, a spokesperson for Liberty Leisure Centre said: "This proposal will help to support the surrounding rural economy by attracting visitors to the district, which in turn helps to support local employment.

"The proposed site is very well screened and its scale would not be out of character with the existing built form in this area.

"The existing woodland ensures that the scheme will not be visually prominent.

"There are no adverse impacts with regards to residential amenities."

On the application, the technical officer for Worcestershire Regulatory Services, Kennedy Nwokolo, said there are concerns about whether the pods could cause noise pollution to nearby residents when they are in full use.

The services have requested that a comprehensive noise assessment be undertaken.

The consultation period for the application ends on February 2.
