Mel Fenton, lead care supervisor at Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon, has been nominated as one of the top five contenders at the annual Bluebird Care Awards, in the Team Member of the Year category.

Over 10,000 Bluebird Care employees from the UK and Ireland were in competition for these awards, hosted at the Fortnum & Mason Department Store in London.

The judges were all experts in the field and heard about Ms Fenton's dedication to her work and community.

In addition to her regular duties, she is known for going the extra mile, even during her days off, to provide assistance to those in need.

Such examples cited by the judges included her taking home washing to do for clients and organising grooming for a customer's dog.

Ms Fenton said: "Putting a smile on someone’s face is what this job is all about – whether that’s my customers or my amazing team, it’s just about being there for people when they’re going through something.

"To be named as a finalist out of so many incredible colleagues for doing something I love is just incredible.

"I’m really grateful to my team for nominating me and very proud to represent Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon and all our customers."

The awards shortlist, recognizing the outstanding contributions of the nominees, was drawn from three categories: Team Member of the Year, Care Expert of the Year, and Registered Manager of the Year.

Each nominee was invited to meet the judging panel at an afternoon tea event in London, to discuss their work in more detail, including hearing first-hand stories of how they've assisted those in care, their colleagues and communities.

David Benjamin, director of Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon, said: "We are all so proud of Mel for being recognised in the top five team members across the whole of the Bluebird Care network.

"This recognition is very well deserved.

"Mel is a credit to Bluebird Care, and she embodies the values of kindness and high standards that we promote."
