WORCESTER has a new charity shop which its managers say they hope will have a cool vibe.
Age UK's new charity shop opened in the former unit occupied by Hallowood Furniture, on The Shambles, on Thursday morning, (August 8).
Mandy Brookes, who is cluster manager of the new shop as well as manager of Age UK shop in Mealcheapen Street, said: "We had a huge queue when we opened at 10am this morning.
"Given the rain it was surprising.
"There were people who had looked through the window and knew what they wanted.
"It has been busy all morning.
"We can organise the delivery of furniture items bought - we are always out collecting items anyway.
"We have a sustainability theme - we are trying to promote that as well."
Phil Parkinson, from the shop, said: "This shop will be specialising in furniture.
"It looks fantastic we have put a bit of effort into it.
"It has a bit of urban, university vibe as well. There is a vintage section.
"I know we are a charity but there is nothing wrong with being cool."
We had a look around on the first day finding nearly new sofas, tables, chairs, wardrobes and chests of drawers.
In the vintage section were clothes, a typewriter and vinyl records.
Balloons were at the entrance to the shop with a large scull the first eye-catching item in the window.
Hallowood Furniture closed at the shop in July 2022.
