Homebuilder employees have been volunteering their spare time at an animal shelter.

10 members of the David Wilson Homes Mercia team recently lent a helping hand to the Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS) in Malvern to assist with facility maintenance, animal socialising, and event preparations.

Shelter operations manager, Amie Jones, said: "We loved having the brilliant David Wilson Homes team with us, they arrived ready and buzzing for the day.

"I was delighted and so grateful when, on arrival, the team unloaded donations and essential wishlist items from their cars which they had raised for us before their visit."

The tasks handled by the volunteers ranged from painting staff facilities to prepping for upcoming events.

Ms Jones added: "During the day the team was happy to get stuck in and paint the staff kitchen and bathroom area with fresh paint, which gave it a lift and some much-needed TLC.

"Some of the team helped prep for our Santa Paws photo event, labelled all of our shop stock and prepped the community area, it was such a big help ahead of a really busy weekend."

The David Wilson team also spent quality time with dogs and cats at the shelter.

Established in 1983, WARS provides care for abandoned, unwanted and mistreated animals.

The shelter houses 12 cattery pens and kennels for up to 26 dogs, along with other facilities.

Ms Jones said: "Having the voluntary support of organisations like David Wilson Homes means more money donated to the charity can go directly to supporting our animals.

"We need to make sure we give these animals the best experience possible and the work that goes into these volunteer days means our animals get the very best before moving to their forever home."

Dominic Harman, managing director of David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: "As we’re creating brand new communities, we are actively looking for ways to support local causes to show our support.

"Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter is a truly fantastic cause and we are very pleased we’ve been able to help support its excellent work within the community through our volunteering day and in-house fundraising."
