A Coronation Street favourite will be returning to the cobbles after more than a decade away from the ITV soap.

Violet Wilson who is played by Jenny Platt will be arriving in Weatherfield once more to be reunited with her son Dylan Wilson who she shares with Sean Tully - but only for a short while.

In 2011, Violet made a brief appearance when Sean went to visit his son during a one-off episode in London, but she has not been seen on the famous street since 2008.

What happened to Violet in Coronation Street?

Violet left Corrie around 13 years ago with Jamie Baldwin and baby Dylan “in secret”.

When she departed, Violet and Sean didn’t end on good terms after they agreed to have a child together amid her initial split from Jamie.

But when Violet and Jamie reunited, Sean felt “pushed out”.

However, Dylan recently returned to the cobbles to live with his dad, and Violet will be appearing as part of his current bullying storyline where he will need “the support of both his parents”, according to Digital Spy.

It comes as Sean discovers the truth about his son’s behaviour.

A statement from Coronation Street said: "In the coming months, Dylan will be facing the serious repercussions of his actions and will be needing the support of both his parents."

Speaking to Digital Spy and other press recently, Antony Cotton, who plays Sean explained: "We'll be filming with Jenny for a month.

"She's not coming back permanently, but she's coming back. We do often talk about Violet, and Sean off-screen goes down and stays with them.

"I'm very excited to see my mate Jenny, and also to see Violet. I've kept in touch with her throughout, and I just hope that she's not nervous because she doesn’t need to be.

"I imagine she will be because it's a completely different set-up. We shoot more episodes and content. When Jenny was there, the internet barely existed, isn't that mad? So much has changed in 16 years."

It’s thought Violet's arrival will air on ITV1 on Wednesday, March 20.

Coronation Street continues on ITV and ITVX on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm.
