Anyone who fancies becoming a councillor has been invited to a special online briefing session hosted by the council.

The virtual meeting, scheduled for 6pm on Monday, March 11, is open to prospective candidates and their potential agents for the Worcester City Council, Warndon Parish Council or St Peter’s Parish Council.

Key details regarding the electoral process will be provided during the briefing, including vital information on how to complete nomination papers, how postal votes work and the new voter ID rules.

A West Mercia Police officer is also expected to discuss the challenges related to the risks of electoral fraud.

The upcoming council elections, slated for Thursday, May 2, will see all 35 council seats up for election due to the recent changes to Worcester’s electoral boundary lines.

There are now 16 wards, with three wards having three seats each and the remaining 13 with two.

This represents the first ever all-out elections, hence every elected councillor will serve a four-year term until 2028.

Anyone keen on participating is asked to send an email to electoralservices@worcester.gov.uk with relevant details.

Potential candidates will receive further instructions via email a few days ahead of the scheduled meeting.
