Hundreds of pounds have been raised for the family of a beloved Co-op employee at a memorial game in her honour.

Worcester United DGFC and Worcester United Rangers battled it out at Dines Green skate park in a match dedicated to the memory of Amanda 'Mandy' Hopkins, a cherished figure on the estate who recently passed away.

Miss Hopkins lived on the estate for her whole life, and worked at its Co-op for nearly 40 years.

The game, played on Saturday, February 17, ended in a 7-7 draw, with 60 to 70 spectators braving the poor weather to pay their respects to Ms Hopkins and contribute towards the cause, raising £230 on the day.

The match was organized by Nathan Evans, 20, and Lewis Higgs, 24, who grew up in the area and knew Miss Hopkins well.

Mr Evans said: "Myself and Lewis have decided to do this for Mandy and her family because she was a well respected member of the community and she was the heart of Dines Green.

"We both grew up in dines green and we’d always see Mandy every day, she would always ask us how we were and ask how our families were doing.

"It was very sad to hear of her passing and it's left a hole in all of our hearts.

"We wanted to do something as a community and thought bringing everyone together for a football game to raise money for her family to help pay towards anything they need would be a great idea."

Mr Higgs, from Warndon, said: "She worked with my mum for many years at the Co-op.

"She saw both of our families grow up and she would always check up on us.

"She had a soft spot for my younger brother who suffered with epilepsy and learning difficulties, and would always make time to check how he was getting on."

He added: "Mandy was the heart of Dines Green and the face of the Co-op, it will never be the same without her.

"We want to show how much she’ll be missed and how much she was loved by the community."
