A LARGE emergency service presence closed a city road after reports of a "concern for welfare".

Crookbarrow Way was closed in both directions as a precaution after police received a concern for welfare call.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We were called to the A4440 Crookbarrow Way at around 7.25pm following a report of a concern for welfare. 

"The road was closed as a precaution. 

"A thorough search of the area was completed and nobody requiring police support was located."

An eyewitness at the time said: "Coming back home later from Whittington, the road was closed in both directions. 

"There were police cars on both sides of the road, plus an unmarked police car."
