A SOMBRE moment was shared amongst Worcester residents as "coffins" were carried around the city centre.

The event hosted by the Worcester Palestine Solidarity Campaign provided a stark reminder of the thousands of deaths that have happened as a result of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

A crowd of around 150 people then gathered in the square and laid flowers on top of the coffins while others gave speeches and read poems.

Sam Iqbal, the event organiser, said: "We are here to do a funeral procession for the 30,000 people that have been killed in Gaza, if not more.

"Many of them are still under the rubble, waiting to be found, and we have brought this to the streets of Worcester because this is not an issue about some far-flung country.

"We want everyone including our local politicians that this does matter to the people of Worcester.

"This is not about Israel and Palestine.

"This is about humanity. We are the humans of Worcester, and we are here to say this is not okay."

While the crowd from Worcester Palestine Solidarity Campaign travelled through the city during their procession, the sound of a drum mimicking a heartbeat played.
