THERE were queues from as early as 8am when Worcester's popular food market rolled into town today (Saturday).

The Fine Food Market is a regular event on Worcester High Street that takes place on the first Saturday of every month, with its large offering of brilliant Fine Food Traders.

Whether it's a sweet treat to a plate of delicious hot pulled-pork or a bottle of wine, there is plenty of food and drink on offer.

The market first appeared in Worcester this year on March 2, with today (April 6) the second running of the event in 2024.

Food and drink stalls were out in force with a large offering of tasty treats for the public to sink their teeth into.

Bev Mitchell, who runs Yum Sweet Treats, said the business has been thriving off food market events since expanding from every day deliveries.

"This is our fourth year now, we started during lockdown where we initially did local deliveries," she said.

"Now we have expanded into markets, so we have broadened our offering to customers around Worcestershire.

"We are usually out most weekends and have been for the last three years plus.

"We are only based a couple of miles away. We are lucky to have a regular customers visiting us in Worcester."

Footfall stats have been rising in Worcester in the past year and Mrs Mitchell said that, along with good weather, usually sees a "good turn out" at the event.

"It's been a steady start this morning but I think the train strikes have been impacting people getting into the city.

"It usually picks up at around 11am. A couple of our treats have sold well, mainly the crispy flakes and caramel cornflakes - they're quite popular."

Owner of Three Bears Bakery, Nicky Riley, said people had been queuing outside her stall at 8am, an hour before the event starts.

"It's been good, we had a queue down the High Street from 8am," she said.

"They're eager beavers! Our Deer Dish cookies have almost sold out.

"We sell mix boxes with six slices where customers pick six slices to go into a box."

Three Bears Bakery is based in Hanley Swan near Malvern and goes out around each month in Malvern and Worcester selling their bakes treats at markets and festivals.

Mrs Riley said: "It's my favourite bit actually seeing all of people and interacting with them.

"This is the busiest market of the month so it's like we selling to our home crowd."

This story has been amended to better reflect the day at the food market. Three Bears Bakery's name has also been changed from the typo Three Starts Barkey.
