Hundreds of solar panels will be installed on the roofs of two city schools.

Planning permission has been given to Tudor Grange Academy in Bilford Road and Perdiswell Primary School for the installation of the panels.

According to plans given the thumbs-up by city planners, some 565 panels will be installed on the roof of Tudor Grange Academy.

A further 154 solar panels will be fitted on the roof of Perdiswell Primary, on both the flat and pitched roofs of school buildings.

A condition of the planning permission is that work must stop and an ecological consultant contacted should any evidence of bats living in the roof be found.

Planning officers said in their report: “Information was supplied regarding the design and the glint and glare impact on the highway network and the adjacent residential properties, which concluded that due to the existing vegetation the panels will not result in an impact on the highway network and the impact on the nearby residential properties will be low and mitigation is therefore not recommended.”

Both schools are operated by Tudor Grange Academy Trust, which runs more than a dozen schools across the midlands.
