A SERIES of car fires in an area of Worcester are being investigated but are not believed to be linked.

Ronkswood has been subject to a handful of these incidents in recent weeks, with at least three recorded since the beginning of April.

In the first instance, a small vehicle was set on fire in Ronkswood Hill on April 2 and was completely destroyed, which was followed by another small vehicle being engulfed in flames in Newtown Road on April 3.

The latest incident happened on Saturday, April 20 in the early hours of that morning when Emma Collins, of Trent Road in Ronkswood, had her car set on fire in an alleged arson attack.

While this has led to concern that these incidents were a deliberate act, Police want to reassure residents that investigations are underway.

They added that they do not believe that the recent volume of car fires in the Ronkswood area are linked.

Sgt Brian Simpkins, of the safer neighbourhood team which covers Ronkswood, said: “We’re aware of a number of car fires in the area in the last few weeks.

"These are being investigated but at this stage we don’t believe they are linked.

“Officers have been in the area to offer reassurance to residents and, as always, anyone with any concerns or information about crime is asked to get in touch with us.”
