Minchinhampton enhances its sustainability with new lights
Minchinhampton Tennis Club has successfully completed its latest project aimed at enhancing its sustainability.
Thanks to a generous grant of £25,000 from Enovert Community Trust, the club has replaced its halide floodlights, which had been in place since 1982, with energy-efficient LED lightbulbs.
The project has sustainability at its heart and the switch to LED lighting will significantly reduce the club's emissions, carbon footprint, and energy usage, and ensure long-term efficiency, with the new LED bulbs boasting a lifespan of 25 years.
The cost savings from this project will enable the club to offer free beginner and return-to-tennis sessions, along with a new initiative called "walking tennis" aimed at promoting physical activity and reducing social isolation within the community. Free walking tennis sessions will be available from May 2024, led by Head Coach James Aburrow, who was named the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) South and South West LTA Regional Development Coach of the Year 2023.
Becky Putnam, Chairperson of Minchinhampton Tennis Club, said: "We'd like to thank Enovert Community Trust for its generous grant, which has enabled us to complete this important project. We are delighted with the works, which are estimated to lower our energy bills by 70% and reduce our emissions. With this, the club is also contributing to Minchinhampton Parish Council's 'Dark Skies' campaign to prevent light pollution in the area, thanks to the new deflectors installed."
