EXCITEMENT is in the air at a Worcester pub after it scored a rare partnership which will change the way football fans watch the Euros.

The Oak Apple has confirmed it will be installing a Pepsi Fan Zone in its garden during the Champions League Final and then for the UEFA European Football Championship.

The fan zone will provide an outdoor watching area, a bar and games, which are provided by Pepsi.

Gavin Casey and Michael Oseland, who own the pub on Spetchley Road, said this is a great opportunity to bring the community together and change the way people can watch the sport during the Euros.

Mr Casey said: "I think it will be amazing for the pub to have that area outside as well as inside, which can help build a community.

"I don't know how happy they would be if their team lost but it is certainly going to bring people together.

"People need to be together with what's going on in the world, so we are really excited to the point where I keep going to the staff and saying 'guess what, we're getting a Pepsi Fan Zone.'

"It is going to be amazing.

"All the people who have told us, 'oh my god, there is a fan zone,' and expressed their excitement."

Although a date has not yet been given for the fan zone's installation, Pepsi's representatives have visited the pub to examine the area and make preparations.

Mr Casey and Mr Oseland took over The Oak Apple six months ago and have been working on improving its rating with owner Marston's.

The chain rates its pub's popularity on an app called Reputation, and before the two took over the city chain, it was rated last among the chain's eateries for Worcestershire.

Now, the pub has climbed to fifth.

Rumours had begun to circulate that the landlords would step away from the watering hole to work full-time at another pub they own in Bromsgrove called Ye Olde Black Cross.

But the pair have put the rumours to bed after signing their five-year lease.
