Former Carlisle United man Reggie Lambe was the extra-time hero in the National League South play-off final.

Lambe headed the winner for Braintree Town against Worthing to send his side into non-league's top tier.

The 33-year-old Bermudan was on hand to convert a diving header in the 108th minute of the final at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.

The ex-Blues midfielder had only been on the pitch 13 minutes having come off the substitutes' bench in extra-time.

Lambe's goals triggered big celebrations as Braintree held on to seal a 4-3 victory and promotion.

It capped his first season with the Essex club with promotion - Lambe having also helped his previous side, AFC Sudbury, to promotion the previous campaign.

The former United man will now face teams such as Oldham Athletic in the National League in 2024/25, with Braintree heading back to that level for the first time since 2019.

Lambe has been playing in non-league for the last four years, turning out for Stowmarket Town from 2020 to February 2023, his end-of-season spell at Sudbury then followed by his switch to Angelo Harrop's Braintree.

The ex-Ipswich Town man's time at Carlisle brought 90 appearances and 14 goals in a two-year spell under Keith Curle from 2016 to 2018.

He was part of the side that reached the League Two play-offs in the 2016/17 season.

Lambe moved to Cambridge United after leaving the Blues and spent two campaigns with the Abbey Stadium club before his non-league switch.

Another ex-United man was celebrating promotion on Monday.

Owen Windsor was a Marine substitute as the Merseyside club defeated Macclesfield to win the Northern Premier League Premier Division play-off final 2-1. They go up to National League North.
