"A dishwasher was on fire and this was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a CO2 extinguisher.

"Tactical ventilation was used and a search was carried out using a thermal imaging camera.

"There were no casualties.

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 6.45pm."

An eyewitness said they saw four fire trucks at the scene, as well as a HART team (Hazardous Area Response Team).

Worcestershire Acute Hospital said: “Staff raised the alarm after a dishwasher in a staff kitchen area caught fire.

"As a precaution, patients in the ward nearest the fire were moved to the far end of that ward, and staff stayed with them until firefighters had extinguished the blaze and cleared the smoke from the area.

"We’re grateful to our staff for their prompt action, for the support of the fire service and ambulance colleagues, and for the co-operation of visitors while the incident was safely dealt with.”
