A Worcester care home is inviting the community to a craftathon for Dementia Action Week.

The Perry Manor, a home owned by Care UK, has taken the initiative to raise awareness about dementia and reduce its associated misconceptions.

The event is scheduled between 2.30pm-4.30pm on May 23.

The craftathon aims to encourage people to interact and discuss the dementia, including its symptoms.

By inviting local people to the home, Perry Manor aims to get them talking about the illness.

The invitation extends to a coffee meet with Perry Manor's dementia coaches, while their loved ones engage in craft activities supervised by the dedicated team at the home.

The emphasis of the event is to educate carers about the support available in the community.

It also provides opportunities for carers to discuss financial guidance and wellbeing assessments, while sharing their experiences.

Katherine Matthews, home manager at Perry Manor, said: "We can’t wait for the local community to join us for our ‘craftathon’ for Dementia Action Week.

"Here at Perry Manor, we’re passionate about raising awareness and reducing misconceptions around dementia.

"We believe that no carer should feel that they are alone and we’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces and old friends for a chat over a cup of tea and to seeing the finished artwork."

The craftathon follows on from Care UK's The Big Dementia Conversation launched earlier this year.

The initiative encourages nationwide understanding of dementia.

That initiative led to the creation of an online advice hub, shedding light on the not-so-commonly discussed symptoms of dementia.

The hub also offers expert advice from Care UK’s dementia specialists, boasting more than 40 years of experience.

Perry Manor provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care as well as short term respite care.

The care home includes facilities like a cinema, cafe and hair salon, with plenty of space for relaxation and recreation.
