RESIDENTS across Droitwich had gathered for a beacon to be lit to mark a very monumental occasion.
The beacon was lit at St Augustine C of E Church, in Droitwich, on June 6 to mark 80 years since D-day and to commemorate fallen soldiers.
Spectators had watched in Vines Park when it was lit by Mayor Alex Sinton at 9.15pm.
It was one of 75 beacons across the UK which were lit.
Worcestershire County Councillor for Droitwich, Richard Morris, said: "The occasion was well organised and a great tribute to our veterans and those who gave their lives.
"It is important that we remember in the hope that we maintain peace."
